Elon Musk says that in 10 to 20 years, work will be optional and money will be irrelevant thanks to AI and robotics

Elon Musk predicts that within 10–20 years, AI and robotics will make work optional and money irrelevant. Fascinating vision — but it's not new.

The Rambam wrote nearly 900 years ago:

"In that era, there will be neither famine nor war, envy nor competition, for good will flow in abundance and all the delights will be freely available as dust... The occupation of the entire world will be solely to know God." (Mishneh Torah, Laws of Kings 12:5)

The external conditions Musk describes — post-scarcity, no existential competition, freedom from survival pressure — map almost perfectly onto what the Sages yearned for. But here's the difference: Musk doesn't know what people will do with that freedom. His own answer was halting: maybe humans will "give AI meaning."

The Torah answered that question thousands of years ago. Humanity has been building toward one thing all along — and it was never about the technology. The technology is just finally catching up.
